The Opportunity to Make More Art is All Around You

We cross off the checkboxes. We meet spec, and we make work that's forgettable, easy it ignore and the opposite of noteworthy. But everywhere in life, there's an opportunity to make more art.

AJ Leon redefined the standards of what to expect from a free e-book when he released The Life and Times of a Remarkable Misfit. He illustrated every name tag at the Misfit Conference. You might say his commitment to making more art borders on insanity.

The e-book was download 100,000 times, and Kickstarter for the print version was fully funded in four hours. Nobody threw their name tags from the conference away. When was the last time you said that about a lanyard?

When an event manager told me to be open-minded about nametags, I replied to her "over my dead body. Find another way. We're not having any fucking lanyards at this event." She did, and I got to make more art.

Another person who saw our name tags said, "nobody is ever going to throw those away. I replied, "I know.' That's the point."

That report you're about to submit, that email you're about to send, that project you're about to ship.... all of it is an opportunity to make more art.
