Invisible Prisons and Invisible Handcuffs

When you hold on you're imprisoned, when you let go, you're free. We cling so desperately to what we want and even more so to what we have. All that does is make us prisoners in our own lives. But, we can't see the walls we're trapped in, the handcuffs on our hands, or the chains around our legs because they're metaphorical.

Imagine if you were literally handcuffed to something you've always wanted or something you have: a desk, a romantic partner, a job or a career goal. Imagine if you had to walk around everywhere with the book you want to write permanently glued to your hand or you were forever handcuffed to a briefcase with a million dollars in it. You paradoxically have the thing you've always wanted, and at the same time, you're imprisoned by it.

We live so much of our lives based on invisible scripts that we didn't write and were handed down to us by decades of social programming. We choose from the options that are put in front of us while blinded to the possibilities that surround us. We build invisible prisons that we can't see, taste or touch, and we voluntarily put our hands in invisible handcuffs that keep us chained.

The alternative, of course, is to let go... of the life you thought you'd have, of the goal you've yet to accomplish, the dreams that haven't come true, and the failures of your past.

It's impossible for a caged bird to soar no matter how bright its feathers are. When you let go, the illusion will dissolve, the walls will disappear, the handcuffs will fall off your hands, and you'll soar in ways you never have before.

Life is a series of paradoxes. Expect nothing and everything comes to you. When you no longer need anything, you get everything. When you're generous with your money, it multiplies. When you give yourself what you're seeking from others, you get it from them.

What are you holding on to? What if you let it go? You might be able to walk out of hell and discover heaven on earth.
