Attention vs Impact

You can spend your way to a massive Facebook Fan page, Instagram following, or Twitter following. You can accumulate likes, hearts and other metrics that don't mean anything but delude you into confusing attention with accomplishment. If you have enough money, you can do this by the end of the week.

You can use sensationalism like excessive profanity, nude pictures, or controversy to draw attention to yourself. The media may even parrot what you say over and over. Being good at getting attention doesn't necessarily make you good at what you do.

Impact requires you to play the long game. It requires you to invest attention in other people instead of seeking it from them, give instead of taking. Meaningful impact isn't for sale. It's earned through showing up, being generous, and contributing something to the lives of the people you serve.

Are you seeking attention or attempting to make an impact?
